PENINSULA builder Darrell Rogers has used his 20 years of experience as a registered builder to develop an award-winning construction company. His Clontarf-based family housing construction business, Seapointe Homes, won the award for the Brisbane Custom Built home in the category up to $250,000 at the 2008 HIA-CSR Brisbane/Queensland Housing Awards.
In taking out the prestigious and competitive award for the first time, Mr Rogers’ business was recognised by the Housing Industry Associations for its innovative but affordable homes. ‘‘The HIA commended us for our value for money, our open-living plan and a flow-through house where the indoor living areas flow easily to the fully covered patios. ‘‘One of the highlights of our designs is the use of pillar-less corner doors, both inside and out, so people can open the whole door and have nothing in their way. The designs took full advantage of the Queensland lifestyle and weather.
It’s a very good entertaining area where people are outside but feel like they’re inside. With the help of talented designer Aden Jacobi, the clients were fully satisfied with the look of each house. ‘We love building houses that people have put some effort into themselves, but we also make sure our designs are different and not mass-produced looking, from things like the features, gables and using fully termite treated frames and trusses. The Seapointe Homes team’s attention to detail has meant a steady stream of work, even in the current financially hard times, with the business building an average of 40 homes a year.
We keep the building phase flowing and use highly experienced tradesmen so we take about two weeks from the plumber’s stage to lock-up stage. ‘‘We build a broad spectrum of homes, from owner/occupiers to duplexes and investors’ homes. ‘‘Our clients know they are getting the right price and a quality home built in good time.’’
